Do you offer cat netting solutions?
Yes. In addition to custom-built catios, SafeCats NZ also designs and installs high-quality cat netting solutions. Cat netting is an excellent option for securing balconies, patios, courtyards, decks and other outdoor areas where a full catio may not be practical.
Every installation is custom designed to suit your property, providing a safe and discreet way for your cat to enjoy the outdoors while remaining securely contained. We'll discuss the best solution during your consultation and recommend whether a custom catio, cat netting, or a combination of both is the right fit for your home and your cats.
Do you charge for quotes?
Yes. We charge $100 for an on-site consultation and custom quote. This allows us to visit your property, discuss your ideas, take measurements and provide a tailored design that suits your home and your cats.
If you'd like additional design concepts or alternative layouts, these are available for $50 per option.
Do you build outside Canterbury?
Yes. While we're based in Christchurch and complete most of our projects throughout Canterbury, we're happy to travel throughout New Zealand. Get in touch to discuss your location and we'll let you know what's possible.
Do I need building consent?
Every property is different. Whether building consent is required depends on the size, location and design of your catio.
We'll discuss this with you during the design process and can advise whether consent may be required.
How much does a custom catio cost?
Every SafeCats NZ catio is individually designed, so pricing varies depending on the size, layout, features and complexity of your project.
Following your on-site consultation, we'll provide a detailed quotation tailored to your home, your cats and your budget. We'll work with you to design a catio that delivers the best balance of functionality, aesthetics and value.
How long does it take to build a catio?
Most catios are completed within 1–3 days, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
Larger catios featuring tunnels, skywalks or multiple sections may take longer.
Can you match my home's style?
Absolutely. Every catio is custom designed to complement your home. We can match colours, roofing materials and finishes wherever possible to create an enclosure that looks like it belongs.
Can my cat access the catio directly from the house?
Yes. Most of our catios are designed to connect directly to your home, allowing your cat to come and go safely whenever they choose.
Access can be provided through an existing cat door, window, ranch slider or a custom-built tunnel. While we don't install cat doors into glass, we can install cat doors through most wall types and work with you to create the best access solution for your home.
Can you build tunnels and skywalks?
Yes. We specialise in elevated tunnels, skywalks and custom cat pathways that connect different parts of your property, giving your cats even more space to explore safely.
Is the mesh safe for cats?
Yes. We use high-quality galvanised welded mesh that is strong, durable and specifically chosen to safely contain cats while standing up to New Zealand's weather conditions.
Can the catio be built on an existing deck or patio?
Yes. Many of our catios are built onto existing decks, patios, courtyards or concrete areas. Every enclosure is custom designed to suit your property's layout and make the best use of the available space.
Do you build catios for boarding catteries or businesses?
Yes. We design and build custom catios for homes, boarding catteries, rescue organisations and other animal care facilities.
Can older or disabled cats use a catio?
Absolutely. We can incorporate gentle ramps, wider platforms and easy-access pathways to suit senior cats, kittens or cats with mobility challenges, ensuring every cat can enjoy the outdoors safely.
What areas do you service?
We're based in Christchurch and regularly build throughout Canterbury, including Rolleston, Lincoln, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Selwyn, Ashburton and surrounding areas. We also travel throughout New Zealand by arrangement.
Do you build DIY catio kits?
No. We specialise in professionally designed and built custom catios. Every enclosure is individually tailored to your home and your cats, ensuring the highest quality, safety and finish.
